Lady Gaga Fame review 2013

Lady Gaga Fame perfume
Lady Gaga's Fame perfume was released today, and I popped into Sephora to check it out!

Scent is not always easy for me to describe. It takes time to get to know a scent, but perfumes change over the course of a day. With a lipstick or an eye shadow I know immediately upon swatching it whether or not it pleases me. With a perfume, however, I have to spend time with it. I have to apply it and smell it throughout the entire day, perhaps even for several days, before I can decide if I like it. Do the top notes disappear? What notes are lingering? It is a time consuming process.

I went to Sephora to pick up my free birthday gift and Fame was prominently displayed. I gave myself a good dousing and then left to shop elsewhere for an hour or so before deciding that yes, I did enjoy it enough to go back and buy it for myself. There's been so much hype for months about this perfume and crazy rumors that one of its ingredients was semen. Here is the quote that was making the rounds several months ago:
“[Blood and semen] is in the perfume, but it doesn’t smell like it. You just get sort of the after feeling of sex from the semen, and the blood is sort of primal,” she explained. “And the blood was taken from my own blood sample, so it’s like a sense of having me on your skin.”
Here is a quote from the new press release:
"Just as Lady Gaga is a mix of light, darkness, and sensuality, so too is her first fragrance Fame. The Fame fragrance represents the pleasure and madness, glory and decadence, power and anger, freedom and obsession of Fame. Fame speaks not only to Lady Gaga's millions of little monsters, but also to the young women everywhere who seek to experience new technology and glamour and femininity of and extremely wearable and unique fragrance."
Lady Gaga knows how to create drama! Love her or hate her, her perfume is delightful. While enjoyable, the scent is not that unique. It's more subtle than I expected. It's a mass market product and therefore has to be designed with the average woman in mind to be profitable. That isn't meant to be an insult -- I did buy it after all! It's slightly floral and fruity and the incense really stands out to me. Its slight muskiness  makes it versatile and unisex.

The bottle is designed with an asymmetrical gold claw top, which is meant to resemble a paw. "Paws up" is Lady Gaga's way of saying stand up and be proud of who you are, so the paw not only a clever design, but a symbol for her fans as well.
It's a black liquid, the first of its kind, that chemically transforms to be clear after it is sprayed.

NOTES: are Belladonna, Incense, Apricot, Honey Drops, Tiger Orchidea, and Jasmin Sambac.
